A trombone, a smile and a chainmaille tie

One of the greatest things about this little job of mine is that I constantly get in touch with some great, interesting people from around the world.
This is the story about one custom order.

Some time ago, I was approached via Facebook by a nice, smiley guy who was interested in a chainmaille tie I had. Only, it was too wide for him, he wanted a skinny tie, so we agreed that I make one for him. He knew exactly what he wants, he had all the dimensions ready, everything. I was a bit doubtfull because he wanted a 3cm (appx 1.2") tie, I mean, it's not a skinny tie, it's a starved-to-death tie :) But Paul simply had a perfect picture of it in his head and I, honestly, didn't.

So, that order started in a kinda weird way - like there was his mind and my hands. And I relied to that.

Making a tie is a lot of work, comparing with jewelry pieces. Especially because I like to use thinner wire and small rings so the sheet turns out soft and sleeky like fabric. And I like to make a 'real' knot, using separate piece of sheet. Paul's tie took almost 25m of wire, hand coiled, hand cut and hand woven. And here is how it turned out.

During our communication, he told me that he is a musician, a trombonist. And I like trombone, brass instruments in general. They are very popular in my country, it's a whole different genre based on brass orchestras, but that's something I can easily relate. So, I was working and listening Paul's Youtube channel and that helped me to see more clearly what is on his mind about the tie. And I heard trombone in some other genres except jazz and that local style I mentioned. I loved how this very talented and creative musician experiments in different directions and explores the wide application of his instrument. It is so good when you learn something new, so unexpectedly!
Here, check it out yourselves!

Paul was so nice to send me a picture with his tie and I'm proud to publish it here. A trombone, a smile and a chainmaille tie :)
And how on Earth I can not to love this little job of mine when the world is full of such smile-bringers!

I warmly recommend his Youtube Channel if you want to see some more of his work. And here is Paul's Facebook Fan Page, too.
Paul, thanks for everything ;)

P.S. For all interested, I hope I will have a tie available for the Handmade Monday sale. If not, count on a Black Friday ;)

One Chainmaille Ring To Rule Them All

Yesterday I was taking a break from weaving a chainmaille tie (a big project, I'll tell more about it in the next blog post), and, while pickling through my supplies, I found a piece of wire left over from my cross pendant.
For some time now I've been thinking about rings, stretchy rings with rubber O rings (OK, there is too many rings in this sentence, hope I didn't lost you in all those rings), so I thought "why not now?".
And here it is, the prototype.

I'll be wearing this one for some time, to see how it behaves in everyday conditions. What I can tell right now is that it's very comfortable. You know when someone grasps your hand very firmly while shaking with you? Well, this ring won't hurt you in such a occasion. Rubber rings are very practical indeed.
Here are some more pictures.

Tell me what you think. Too chunky? Too rough? Too beautiful? :)

November Scents

Hey, guys, enjoying your November?
Brrrr, it's getting windy and cold over here and mornings smell like snow. Time for mugs and blankets and cinnamon bakings. We'll keep the mulled wine for December ;)

I've been working a lot these days, as Christmas is coming and things became a bit frantic (if you're planning some Christmas shopping at my stores, please keep in mind that at this time of year you can never be too early). I have some more jewelry to show and some more stories to tell, but all in its time.

Now, talking about winter smells and tastes, I was invited recently to be a guest author at Etsy Christmas In July Team Blog. I love that one, there is always something new and interesting to read on various topics. So, I shared one of those magical winter recipes that will wake your inner child, gather your family in a fun activity and make your home smells like heaven.

Ok, let's put a face to these words... Nice to meet ya!

Somehow, I have very few pictures of myself. In this era of constant photographing and sharing and pinning, I never bring camera with myself and never think of the smartphone that I do carry around. And even if I do, posing for pictures so often seems to me like waste of time and losing that special moment that you wish to capture. Kind of sacrificing a real-time memory for a digital memory.

But this weekend there was a really special event. There was a huge book fair in my city, which is a special thing for me every year, but that's not what I had in mind. My very dear friend got her first book published! And not only that, but it was a hit! And not only that, but it's a magic fantasy novel for children that I totally adored from the first paragraph I read, some year and a half ago!
So, it was a real picture time.

And all this intro (I talk too much, I know) was for that I realized that there are few pictures of me on the internet and that it would be nice to show you who is behind this blog and chainmaille jewelry and shops and all.

So here I am. Hi, guys, nice to meet you :)
(I'm the one with short hair)
